The McCutcheon's Take Italy: Part 3 of 11

July 3, 2019: Venice to Florence

We got on the train at 10am and took it to Florence. We couldn't get into our airbnb until 3pm so we killed time at an amazing lunch spot called Fattoria Rossi. It's a farm to table restaurant with an amazing owner and an even more amazing ambience (the eating area is in the underground wine cellar!) The owner of the place was PASSIONATE about the foods he offered. He was incredibly knowledgeable and spent a ton of time at the table entertaining and educating us. He recommended some great foods, including: a cheese and meat board (all produced locally at the farm) and two pinsas. Pinsas are not to be confused with pizzas because they are lighter and less filling. The wine we drank with lunch was homemade and matched the quality of all of the foods we were trying. We also got to sample a creamy balsamic that has been aging for years. (Mark and mom even tried a spicy one which made the chocolate dessert even better-- hard to believe!) Overall lunch was absolutely wonderful. All six of us would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling through Florence who wants a more personal food and wine experience.

After thanking the owner we made our way to our huge, rustic airbnb. It's massive and its charm is equally as impressive.

Mom, Candace, Jimmy and I walked to Boboli Gardens while Mark did some real work and dad did some figurative work (napping). I think if it weren't so incredibly hot (we went around 3pm) we would've enjoyed it much more. The gardens were vast and and green but there were hardly any flowers. There also wasn't much shade. It took us awhile to walk through; it was impressive but I don't think it's a must do when visiting Florence.

After finishing our walk through the gardens Mark and dad met us for dinner at a small place along the water. The night air turned cool and we watched the sun set as we ate. I had a gnocchi that I really enjoyed but for the first time a wine that I didn't much care for. We enjoyed the views along the water before heading home for the evening.
