And just like that, our family was flying back to Bangkok. Our time in the north had been memorable, filled with adventures, laughs and just a few easily remedied oops's. We took some last minute photos of the gorgeous greenery surrounding the home of our hosts in Chiang Rai, while donning our newly purchased elephant pants. #canyouspotatourist10000milesaway?
Once safely on the ground in BKK, we picked up some lunch and headed back to the airbnb we had stayed at during our first stint in Bangkok. We were really excited to be back. Candace's friend from grade school, Katy, just happened to be traveling Thailand at the same time as our family. She would be in Bangkok for the next two days. We invited her over for a porch beer as the sun was setting. It was gorgeous.
We decided to try a local spot a good friend of mine had told me about. She said Havana Social was one of the most fun, happening places for live music and dancing. What we didn't realize however, was that you needed a password to get in. We wandered the streets near the supposed "club" but couldn't find it. Finally, I reached out to some thai women who were lingering in the street. They not only told me the password, but also the correct way to deliver it. We had to step inside the phone booth located outside the club, pick up the phone and whisper the password in. Then, if we were accepted, a doorman would allow us inside. Pretty damn swanky, that's for sure. The club was tiny, but there was live music and a dance floor. Candace, Katy and I had a lot of fun "dancing like no one was watching".
Aussie Bar, a local sports bar with live music, pool tables and an outdoor patio, located on soi 11, was our next destination. Aussie Bar never disappoints. Candace, Katy and I were able to sit at the outdoor bar and order drinks while chatting the night away.
