As we ventured through Vietnam Tash and I kept seeing advertisements for "traditional water puppet shows" so we decided to check one out in Hanoi. It takes place in a theatre. The show has a live band, singers and puppeteers who stand in the water behind a screen to control their marionettes. This form of entertainment was originated by farming families who needed something to do when the rice paddies flooded. Each act incorporates a story or song from Vietnamese folklore. It was a good cultural experience, but nothing I'd say is a must do when traveling Vietnam.
